Nehemiah had a vision and a cause. Nehemiah went to the house of Shemaiah who was on house arrest. Shemaiah stated to Nehemiah that he should run away and hide. He was to give up on his cause –reconstructing the wall in Jerusalem. Shemaiah made false claims in attempt to take Nehemiah off his cause. Nehemiah saw through this unclever ruse. He stated “Should a man like me run away? How can someone like me enter the temple and live? I will not go.” – Nehemiah 6:11
Do not be intimated.
Nehemiah saw right through Shemaiah. He was attempting to intimidate and scare him. Nehemiah knew that God had not sent Shemaiah. Shemaiah was a pawn of his enemies. He was put in to play to dissuade and distract Nehemiah. Nehemiah knew that if he ran, it would show cowardice and lack of faith. He would regret his action and not have accomplished the purpose of his life.
