“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” – Isaiah 43:18 (NIV)
God’s words through Isaiah are not just comfort. They are the prescription for breaking through barriers and tomorrow’s worries. The Israelites are stuck replaying past defeats and fearing future uncertainties while God is ready to do something unprecedented. The same invitation extends to us today. God invites us to step fully into the present moment to leading to transformation.
Why Now Is Your Point of Power
The present moment is the only place where you have actual control. You cannot rewrite yesterday’s mistakes or guarantee tomorrow’s outcomes, but you possess complete authority over your current thoughts, choices, and responses. This moment, right now, is where healing begins, where new habits form, and where God meets you with fresh grace.
Living in the now doesn’t mean ignoring lessons from the past or abandoning future planning. It means refusing to let yesterday’s regrets or tomorrow’s anxieties steal today’s opportunities.
Three Strategies for Mastering the Present
One, practice mindful awareness. Throughout your day, pause and ask: “What am I thinking and feeling right now?” Notice when your mind drifts to past regrets or future worries, then gently redirect your attention to the present. Use your senses to identify what do you see, hear, smell, or feel at the current moment. This simple practice anchors you in reality rather than in mental time travel.
Two, embrace single tasking. Multitasking scatters your presence across multiple activities, diluting your effectiveness. Choose to do one thing at a time with full attention. Whether you’re having a conversation, completing a project, or spending time in prayer, give it your complete focus. Quality presence trumps divided productivity every time.
Three, create present-moment rituals. Establish daily practices that ground you in the now. This might be morning gratitude practice, taking three deep breaths before meals, or setting phone reminders to check in with yourself hourly. These rituals become anchors that pull you back from mental wandering.
Your Now Moment Awaits
God is doing a new thing, but it’s happening in this moment, not in your memories or imagination. Your breakthrough, peace and next step are all available right now.
Stop reading and take three deep breaths. Feel your feet on the ground. This is your moment of power. What will you choose to do with it?
