Pour Your Oil

Do not ask for a few.  The word “few” limits.  It means consisting of or amounting to only a small number. Thinking small stifles productivity and progression.  In 2 Kings 4:1-7, tells the story of the widow with oil.  Her husband had obediently served the Lord. He died leaving her in debt.  Creditors demanding payment.  Payment requiring sacrificing her two sons.  Two sons to become indentured servants.

Not a Few

This woman just lost her husband and now is losing her sons. She is distraught. Seeks out Elisha for help.  Elisha asked how could he help.  She replied that all she has is a jar of olive oil.  Olive oil is costly.  It is not ordinary oil.  Elisha instructs her to go ask her neighbors for jars.  He says, “Not just a few” (2 Kings 4:3, NIV).  After gathering the many jars she is to go home and shut the door.  Shut the door, pouring oil into every container that she receives.

Multiplies

God takes her little bit of oil and multiplies.  Multiplies to create an abundance. What God wants for you. To have abundance. Abundance through multiplication. Becoming greater not just good. Multiplication leads to impact and significance. You must remove the limits for God to multiply. Multiplication requires obedience. Obedience in following instructions. You will need to collect your containers and shut your door. Shut the door on little to realize abundance. Believe in abundance. Follow God’s instructions and directions.

See beyond the natural sight of what is to what can be.  Take the limits off your potential by multiplication. Let God expand you.

I challenge you to reflect on two questions:

  1. Identify the areas in which you can multiply.
  2. What will be the impact of multiplication?

After answering these questions. Ask God for guidance. Follow his instructions. Shut the door on few. Pour your oil. Living in abundance.
