Therefore let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity (Hebrews 6:1, NIV). You have the basics. This requires moving beyond the basics, not becoming stagnant in knowledge and understanding. Use this passage to apply to all aspects of your life.
Use these five themes to move beyond the basics:
- Apply values and beliefs as guiding principles to identify opportunities for growth. They provide a moral and ethical compass for making decisions and pursuing purpose.
- Strive to grow in the four areas of development – spiritual, intellectual, emotional and practical.
- Commit to progression not regression. Your goal is to progress. Striving to become a more mature, knowledgeable and capable individuals as you continue to journey through life.
- Be intentional. Set specific goals for your personal growth and actively work toward them.
- Maturing in cognitive development. Expand your thinking, problem-solving abilities and acquire new knowledge and skills.
Romans 12:2 says that you are to be continually committed to the renewing of your mind. This dictate learning and development.
Lifelong commitment
Being better is a lifelong process. You do not want to remain the same year after year. You are to progress through the stages of development. Maturing in your cognitive development. Pressing forward to you achieve more. Being intentional is enabling. Actively shaping your path to go beyond the basics of life.
