It is seeking the best interest of another, notwithstanding our feelings. You can love people whom you do not necessarily like because love is not dependent upon feelings. Love based on our feelings. It is the result of willingness to sacrifice for the welfare of others. Jesus sacrificed for us. He showed us the greatest love by laying down his life. In John 15:13, Jesus states “No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends.” He endured suffering, isolation and pain for the well-being of mankind. He withstood because of his love for us. As such, how can we not seek to emulate and follow him. It is because of Jesus, we can live an abundant life.
Apostle Paul devoted an entire chapter to discussing the supremacy of loves. He concluding the chapter with “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Love unifies hate divides. Hatred causes destruction and love leads to growth. Hatred leads to selfishness and seeking self-gratification.
The benefits of love are numerous. Love fills you with an internal light and hope. It never fails and conquers all. Love is contagious because it will spill over and reach others. It fills you with peace and joy. Ultimately love results in unification.
Because of God’s love, we have the gift of life where there is only chance to live. Live your life focusing on unification and embracing love. Lay down our arms to open up our arms to loving one another. Follow the greatest commandment – Love one another as I have loved you. – John 15:12. With love, we can change and heal our world.
