In 1 Corinthians, Paul writes to the Corinthians divided and falling away from the gospel. The Corinthians focused on who baptized them instead of the why of the baptism. Based on who had performed the baptism they were claiming allegiance. Allegiance was not to be to man but to God. They were missing the mark.
Paul refused to be distracted by their nonsense. Paul understood his place and purpose. There was no confusion. For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel—not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect. -1 Corinthians 1:17
Focus on Your One Thing
God had given Paul his assignment. Paul had one thing to do. Preach the gospel. He was sticking to his one thing. Like Paul, there is one thing where you need to become the expert. Individuals can become distractions from the pursuit of your purpose. Wasting time on activities that have nothing to do with your one thing.
The one thing lights you on fire. Ignites you out of bed. It motivates and inspires you. The one thing requites commitment and dedication. It is a compelling force within you. The one thing will not tolerate multi-tasking. Multi-tasking is a myth. It divides your attention and distracts you from the tasks that move you forward in your cause. You will be running in circles missing out on becoming the expert in your one thing. Focusing on your one thing will yield extraordinary results.
Commit to One Thing
Paul was instrumental in spreading the gospel – his one thing. Bringing many to Christ. He wrote many of the books in the New Testament. He had single-minded focus. Driven by his one thing. You must be the same. Have tenacity and resilience in following through. Do not give up or lose sight of your one thing.
