Society pushes self-sufficiency and human accomplishment. 1 Corinthians 2:5 (NIV) states “So that your faith might not rest on human wisdom but on God’s power.” This scripture contradicts relying on human understanding and capabilities.

The Foundation

Human wisdom is based on God’s authority and power. Because of God, there are remarkable achievements in technology, medicine and in artificial intelligence. These achievements help us to make sense of our world. You are taught from an early age to develop your talents, trust your judgment, and stand on your own two feet. These aren’t inherently wrong pursuits, but they can lead  to a dangerous place of pride and self-reliance that ultimately leaves you spiritually vulnerable.

The Limitations of Human Strength

The truth is that human strength pales in comparison to God’s power. Human knowledge is limited, perspectives are narrow, and abilities are finite. Building your life solely on the foundation of human wisdom is constructing on a foundation that is not stable and secure. Circumstances change, theories evolve, and what seems wise today may appear foolish tomorrow because of limited knowledge.

Embracing Divine Dependence

God invites you into a different way of living that is based on humility and dependence. This doesn’t mean abandoning rational thought or shirking personal responsibility. Rather, it means recognizing the proper place of human wisdom within a larger framework where God’s power and perspective reign supreme.

By leaning not on our own understanding but seeking God’s, you open yourself to a wisdom that transcends human limitations. You begin to see beyond immediate circumstances to eternal realities. You recognize that true strength isn’t found in asserting your will but in surrendering to God’s.

Finding Freedom in Surrender

Nothing happens without God. This isn’t fatalism but rather recognition of divine sovereignty. It’s an acknowledgment that in your weakness, His strength is made perfect. By seeking his will  above your own desires, you find freedom. You are no longer bound by limitations because his strength is infinite.  There are no boundaries.  You break through limiting beliefs to become aligned with God’s will in your life, living in your true purpose.

The challenge before you is to continually examine where your faith truly rests. Are you clinging to human values or God’s? Are you striving to think as God thinks? In your weakness, are you seeking His strength?

The path of dependence on God’s power rather than human wisdom isn’t always easy, but it leads to a life of true significance. One that is not built on a foundation that will not hold the capacity of living in your purpose but instead on the solid rock of God’s eternal power.
