God’s Whisper

There are times when you must be quiet otherwise you will miss God’s whisper, his talking to you.  Every day, we have to ask God for our assignment, we must not assume we understand His plan but rather surrender to His will daily. – E’yen A. Gardner. You must open your ears to listen, be obedient and follow.  Recall Abraham and Sarah, God promised them a son who came to fruition in their later years. Abraham was tested by God, he was to take his son to be a sacrificial offering. Abraham listened and obeyed God’s instructions. God was testing his obedience. Ultimately, God provided the sacrificial lamb that was to be offered. The point is Abraham listened and followed what God had spoken and tasked him to do. Each of us must do the same when God talks you are to follow. You must get in the presence of the Lord, listen for his whisper.   Ecclesiastes 5:2 says “do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let  your words be few.”  Instead of you rushing in to speak to God, be silent and let him speak to you. You cannot receive answers to questions to which you have if you are always the one doing the talking, you must be silent. Quiet your mind and thoughts, giving God the opportunity to speak to you. In turn, God has a message for each of us, messages that are only for you. The messages are for you, directing you in fulfilling the purpose for which you were created. God will intercede and intercept your life to get your attention. You will be summoned to answer the call, using the gifts and talents he has planted within you. I will give you hidden treasures, rich stores in secret places, so that you may know that I am LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name Isaiah 45:3.  Know that God will call upon you,  be prepared to answer and take action.  I urge you to daily take time out to just be still and listen. God talks to us using many different avenues. Become acquainted with him so that you will know when he is talking to you. Elaine Orabona stated, “God speaks in a soft voice I can hear when I resolve to listen and stop putting words in His mouth.”

Recall the story of Samuel, the Lord was speaking to him; however, Samuel thought it was Eli calling to him. Each time until the third time, Eli stated to him that it was not him but the Lord. Eli said to him “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’”  This same principle applies to each of us, you may think another is talking to you but it is the Lord.  So next time say “Speak Lord for I am listening”.  Thereafter be still and be quiet, listen with your mind and ears, for the whisper of God’s voice.  His whisper may be faint because he is beseeching you to get into his presence.  Listen and be prepared to take action going in the direction he to which he is leading you for the journey he has mapped out for your life, fulling your purpose.  The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away – Isaiah 50:5.
