Crowned Again: Reimagining Yourself Through Cranial Prosthesis

What if the invitation to see yourself differently was closer than you thought?

There are moments in life when the mirror feels unfamiliar. Not because you have changed who you are at your core, but because something on the outside has shifted. With the shift, there is a change how you see you.  For millions of people, hair loss is one of those moments. Whether it comes through a medical diagnosis, treatment, alopecia, hormonal changes, stress, or simply the quiet progression of time, the experience is deeply personal. And far too often, people carry it alone. They are unsure of their options, uncertain of their worth, and hesitant to invest in something that feels like it might be out of reach.

This episode of Change Your View was created for them.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Josalyn Miles, founder of Styles by Josalyn LLC and a cranial prosthesis specialist whose work sits at the intersection of beauty, health, and identity. What Josalyn does goes far beyond hair. She creates custom, medical-grade cranial prostheses for men and women who are ready to reimagine how they see themselves. She does it by listening, using her expertise, with compassion, and artistry that no shelf or online cart can replicate.

In our conversation, we explore what cranial prosthesis really is and who it serves, how it differs from a traditional wig or hairpiece, and what the experience of working with a specialist truly feels like.  What I found to be most important is that this investment is not beyond a person’s reach. It is more accessible than most people realize. It may even be covered by your insurance.

But beyond the practical, this episode is really about something deeper. It is about the person who is wanting to do something for themselves and keeps finding reasons to wait. It is about the quiet power of deciding that you are worth discovering — not reclaiming, not recovering — but truly seeing, perhaps for the very first time.

You are not lost. You are on the verge of reimagining the person that you can be.

Pull up a seat. This conversation is about to change your view.

How often do you allow yourself to want something — and then actually say yes to it?

Crowned Again: Reimagining Yourself Through Cranial Prosthesis

Hello,  Josalyn Miles. I thank you so much for taking your time to have a conversation with me today on Change Your View. It’s my pleasure. Thank you so much, Haseena.

Before we dive in, I want our listeners to really understand the world you operate in, Josalyn — because most of us have never heard the words ‘cranial prosthesis’ unless we’ve been through something that brought us there. So let’s start at the beginning…

Your view is about to change.

Listen to the entire podcast.

This moment in my conversation with Josalyn Miles on Change Your View is one I keep coming back to.

Josalyn stated what makes her different is that she listens and pays attention to the details. It is not what is said but the client’s reactions.  She says “I ensure that the prothesis matches the client’s vision. I do not rush through the process to get to the finished unit. I take the time to understand exactly what they want because it matters to me. I am not doing what I do for the money but to help my clients see the beauty that is within. I have been where they are in so I understand where they are trying to go.”

At the end of the day, this is an investment in yourself. You are worthy of this investment. Do not let anyone influence you on what you do for yourself.

And as always, I want to leave you with this: You are not defined by what you’ve been through. You are being shaped by it. Believe in who you’re becoming. Because you belong — exactly as you are, right where you are.

About Josalyn Miles

Josalyn Miles, Licensed Cosmetologist (Styles By Josalyn) & Cranial Prosthesis Specialist (Restorative Assurance) fell in love with hair 30 years ago at the tender age of 8 . Starting off a braider progressing to additional natural hairstyling, the confidence boosts visible after completing a client’s service kept me in business. After a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 18, the start of medical treatment began causing hair loss and depression. Combining my love for creativity and self-awareness I knew I needed to climb out of my funk. With nothing but time and fear keeping me in my room I taught myself how to make custom wigs with the hopes of making myself look and feel better. It worked!

I then became a walking billboard for my custom units. When others inquired about who did my hair, that led to them sitting in my chair. 20 years later I’ve had the honor of blessing women in my shoes who’ve experienced hair-loss, those who want a quick application of a new look, style on  film/Production sets, Grammy Glam, collaborate with Rush Hospital &UI Health’s Oncology Department, film two WGN News Segments and be published in several newspapers and magazines!
