Embrace Lasting Purpose

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NIV) states “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot.” These words illuminate the reality that everything in this world has an expiration date. The recognition, status, and platforms achieved are temporary. Throughout history, influential women have understood this principle, focusing not on fleeting acclaim but on creating impact that transcends their lifetime. Women who have shaped our world through their courage, wisdom, and perseverance.

Forging Your Own Path Rather Than False Security

Reflect on the women in history who forged their own path. Not waiting for permission to make their mark. Women such as Harriet Tubman navigating the Underground Railroad and Marie Curie pursuing scientific discovery in male-dominated fields. Moving forward, Kamala Harris becoming the first Black female Vice President. These women are a testament to you being a pioneer. Forging your own path, not succumbing to external validation or societal approval.  Proverbs 31:25 (NIV) states “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” This verse confirms that women can find their security not in temporary circumstances but in inner strength and purpose. Not fearing the future because she isn’t building her identity on shifting sands.

Divine Validation Over Human Approval

Follow the evidence.  In our history, there is evidence of women who have created lasting change facing criticism, ridicule, and opposition. Despite these challenges, they persisted to show that chasing validation from people constructs a building on a fragile foundation. Building your worth on human approval is subjecting yourself to constantly changing standards and opinions. Galatians 1:10 (NIV) states “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”  The women who have most profoundly shaped history understood that their ultimate validation comes from aligning with divine purpose rather than societal expectations. Constructing on a foundation that is everlasting and secure.

Influence vs. Power: Understanding the Difference

Divine purpose reveals the distinction between influence and power. Power often relies on position, authority, or control, but influence stems from character, wisdom, and authentic living.  Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) states “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” True influence isn’t about demanding attention but about illuminating paths for others through how you live.

As you celebrate Women’s History Month, take time to reflect on creating your own authentic path and seeking divine validation. Make your mark on this world. Continuing the legacy to be a  spark and be the change.
