“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:7

What Does It Mean to Be Strong and Courageous?

When God commanded Joshua to “be strong and very courageous,” He wasn’t simply telling him to feel brave. True strength and courage are deeper than emotions or temporary boldness.

To be strong means to remain steadfast in faith when circumstances suggest otherwise. It is standing firm in God’s promises when everything around you seem uncertain. Courage is not the absence of fear but the determination to move forward despite the fear.  It is being grounded in the confidence that God’s presence is constant.  Taking action believing in the outcomes promised in God’s words.

What Does Strength and Courage Look Like?

Godly strength and courage are visible in consistent obedience, making decisions based on principles, having resilience in the face of adversity and being humbly dependent on God. It is having bold faith to take actions on what is not visible because of faith in God’s promises.

Impact on Attitude and Mindset

Choosing to be brave transforms perspective. You shift focus from intimating obstacles to God’s empowering presence.  Move forward with clarity rather than paralysis when facing challenges.  Trust divine wisdom over personal understanding. Find freedom to move forward, not allowing the fear of failure to hold you back. Your decisions are based on lasting values instead of immediate comfort and gratification.

Strategies to Be Strong and Courageous

Believe that you can be strong and courageous.  Immerse yourself in his word.  God’s word builds the foundation for courage.  Look at the evidence of past instances where God has proven to be trustworthy in your journey. Be part of a community of others who are like-minded who can support you in challenging times. During times of challenges, focus on whose you are rather than the magnitude of your obstacles. Most importantly, daily create space to spend time in prayer, worship and meditation.

Being strong and courageous is faithful obedience rather than fearlessness.  True strength is not self-generated but God-provided enabling you to be brave. In every transition and challenge, the path to success remains the same: unwavering commitment to God’s ways, empowered by His presence.
