In Mark 2:1-12, Jesus is preaching the word in Capernaum. Friends of a man paralyzed are carrying him to Jesus for healing. The entrance to Jesus is blocked so the men created their own path. They cut a hole in the roof and lowered the paralyzed friend through the roof.
The Command to Rise
Jesus says to the paralyzed man “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home” (Mark 2:11, NIV). Jesus’s words carried power but they required a response. The healing is not complete until the man acts on his faith. His getting up transformed possibility into reality.
Understanding “Get Up”
Getting up involves three critical elements – believing in the possibility, becoming who you are meant to be, and taking decisive action. When you fail to get up, you remain your comfort zone, miss divine appointments, leave potential unrealized and forfeit opportunities for growth
The Journey from Mat to Movement
Getting up requires faith to believe in the possible, the courage to move beyond comfort, the strength to take action and determination to keep moving
From Paralysis to Purpose
Like the paralyzed man, you will face moments that require you to get up. Whether held down by fear, doubt, or circumstance, the command remains the same: believe, become, act. Your mat is limiting beliefs, enabling past failures, empowering current challenges and making routines comfortable.
The question isn’t whether you can get up—it’s whether you will. Just as the paralyzed man had to participate in his miracle, your transformation requires your active participation. The power to heal may come from above, but the decision to get up comes from within.
Just as the paralyzed man got up, you can get up. Jesus spoke the words, but the man had to believe and follow through. He had to act by getting up.
Getting up means refusing to stay on the mat of your circumstances. It means believing God’s voice over your doubts, becoming the person your potential demands, and taking that first courageous step forward. Staying down means watching life happen to you instead of through you—seeing opportunities walk past your mat while you remain unchanged.
The question isn’t whether you can get up—it’s whether you will. What mat have you been lying on too long? Your healing, your breakthrough, your next chapter begins the moment you choose to rise.
