The book of Zephaniah begins with the prophet standing before the people, delivering a message that many did not want to hear. He spoke words that foretold of God’s judgement, repercussions of the actions of the people and what the people needed to do to again gain God’s favor. The people needed to reform not just repent.
The Foundation of Five Beliefs
Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.'” – Mark 9:23 (NIV). Zephaniah’s strength came from what I call the 5 B’s of Belief.
Believing in God
Trusting in divine purpose exceeds fear of human reaction giving courage to speak difficult truths. A foundation anchor that is above everything and every person.
Believing in Your Words
Message is from God. Giving him confidence in its truth and importance. When you believe in your words, they carry weight and authenticity that others can sense.
Believing in Your Worth
Despite potential rejection, understand your value comes from God, not public opinion. This self-worth is grounded in divine creation rather than human approval, gives strength to stand alone when necessary.
Believing in Your Purpose
Purpose is bigger than comfort. This belief enables you to persist in your mission despite difficulties.
Believing in People
Belief in people’s capacity for change. You must have hope in which can be instead of allowing what is to overshadow potential.
Application
When facing your own challenges in standing for truth in any aspect of your life, these five dimensions of belief remain crucial:
- Let faith in God be your anchor
- Confidence in your message to deliver it effectively
- Self-worth to withstand criticism
- Purpose to persist through challenges
- Belief in the capacity of others to change
True belief is multidimensional. It’s not enough to simply believe in God—you must also believe in your calling, worth, and the potential for change in others. When these beliefs align, you find the strength to stand firm, speak truth, and facilitate transformation.
